We set our goals to be achieved. We expect to succeed. We make plans. We anticipate the most likely challenges and adapt to the unexpected ones. We leap into action with enthusiasm focused on the prize. We power through with the momentum from our launch. But suddenly…..our speed begins to fall off. The weight of the mission seems to become heavier. We struggle to maintain as much as to move forward. What is HAPPENING?
WE ARE CLOSE TO THE GOAL!
This point is the the most difficult leg of the journey because while the goal may be close, within our sight, slightly out of reach. The effort it takes to keep moving forward has intensified to three or five times the amount it took to get started. Doubt begins to invade our thoughts. “What made me think I could do this?” “I am not going to make it.” “I should turn back now.” ” Everyone was right. I must have been crazy.” “I made it this far…that’s good enough.”
We also have positive thoughts. “The goal is right there.” “Only a few more steps.” “One more burst and I will make it!” “I have come too far to quit this close to my goal!” “It will be worth the effort when I reach the finish.” What I described is the same things we experience climbing to the top of a hill. Our goal is the peak of that hill. We feel the most stress, the most weight, and the most intense struggle right before we reach the peak!
But at the peak of the hill, you have a great view of what surrounds you. At the peak, you no longer feel the strain, the stress, the weight, or the struggle. You have reached your goal. Look at the possibilities opened because of your achievement! Look back at the path you took and streamline your efforts. Update your route. This will make your next goal more manageable. You know what to expect and the effort it will take to reach the next peak.
Remember to enjoy the achievement. Celebrate! Take in the view. Remember the effort needed to reach the goal is intensified the closer you come to achieving it! Don’t give up! You are almost there! Get inspired. Get motivated by the increasing challenge. Mark it as a signal the goal or reward you have your sights on is within your grasp!
Keep achieving your goals.
LEARN. GROW. ADAPT. EVOLVE.
